Machine Buying Guide

Everything you need to know before purchasing an industrial machine for your business.

1. Choosing the Right Capacity

Machine capacity is the most critical factor in your purchase decision. It determines how much output your machine can produce per hour or per shift. Choosing the wrong capacity can lead to wasted investment or production bottlenecks.

How to Calculate Your Required Capacity

  • Calculate your daily production target in kg, pieces or units
  • Divide by the number of working hours per day
  • Add a 20-30% buffer for peak demand periods
  • Match this number with the machine's rated capacity

For example, if you need 200 kg of ground spices per day and work 8 hours, you need approximately 25-30 kg/hr capacity. A 50 kg/hr pulverizer would give you comfortable headroom.

Tip: It is always better to slightly over-specify capacity than to undersize. Machines running below capacity last longer and consume less power per unit.

2. Power Requirements

Industrial machines come in single phase and three phase power configurations. Understanding your available power supply is essential before finalizing a machine purchase.

Single Phase vs Three Phase

  • Single Phase (220V): Available in homes and small shops. Suitable for small capacity machines up to 3 HP. Lower initial cost but limited to smaller machines.
  • Three Phase (440V): Required for medium to large capacity machines. More efficient motor operation, better starting torque, and handles heavier loads. Standard in factories and industrial areas.

If you are setting up in an industrial area like Nangloi, Bawana, Mundka or similar Delhi industrial zones, three phase power is typically available. For home-based businesses, check your power connection type before ordering.

Important: Running a three phase machine on single phase power will damage the motor. Always verify your power supply with an electrician before placing your order.

3. Automation Level

Machines are available in manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic configurations. The right choice depends on your production volume, labor availability and budget.

Manual Machines

Lowest investment, requires operator intervention at every step. Best for very small scale production or businesses just starting out.

Semi-Automatic Machines

Balances cost and efficiency. Some operations are automated while others require manual input. Ideal for small to medium scale operations with 1-3 operators.

Fully Automatic Machines

Complete production with minimal human intervention. Highest output, most consistent quality, but higher initial investment. Best for medium to large scale operations with regular production schedules.

4. Material of Construction

The material used in machine construction affects durability, hygiene compliance and suitability for different products.

  • SS304 Stainless Steel: Food-grade material, corrosion resistant. Essential for food, pharma and chemical processing. Higher cost but mandatory for hygiene compliance.
  • Mild Steel (MS): Cost-effective structural material. Suitable for machine frames, stands and non-contact components. Often combined with SS contact parts for cost optimization.
  • SS202: Lower cost alternative to SS304. Acceptable for some non-critical applications but not recommended for direct food contact.
  • Hardened Steel: Used for cutting dies, bending rollers and wear parts that experience high friction.
Rule of Thumb: Any surface that touches your product must be SS304 for food applications. Structural components can be mild steel to reduce cost.

5. Budget Planning

Your machine investment should account for more than just the purchase price. Consider the total cost of ownership.

Beyond the Sticker Price

  • Machine Cost: The base price of the machine
  • Transportation: Delivery charges to your location
  • Installation: Setup, commissioning and electrical work
  • Training: Operator training and documentation
  • Spare Parts: Initial spares kit and ongoing maintenance parts
  • Power Connection: If you need to upgrade to three phase power

At Oven Bakeries, we provide transparent pricing that includes transportation, installation and training for Delhi NCR customers. For other locations, transportation is extra but installation support is available.

6. Maintenance & After-Sales Support

Regular maintenance is key to getting the best life and performance from your machine. Choose a manufacturer who provides reliable after-sales support.

Maintenance Best Practices

  • Follow the maintenance schedule provided with the machine
  • Use recommended lubricants and consumables
  • Keep the machine clean, especially food-grade contact parts
  • Check electrical connections and belt tension regularly
  • Report any unusual vibration, noise or performance drop immediately

What to Expect from Your Manufacturer

  • Warranty on machine and components (typically 1 year)
  • Availability of spare parts within reasonable time
  • Technical support via phone, WhatsApp or on-site visit
  • Service AMC (Annual Maintenance Contract) options

Oven Bakeries provides comprehensive after-sales support across Delhi NCR and India. Our service team is reachable on WhatsApp at 9315730440 for quick troubleshooting.
